School Life

Junior SchoolJunior School

The Junior School, which takes pupils from age 5, centres its philosophy on creating a supportive and happy environment for the early years of education.  We aim to develop each child to his or her full potential so that they will have a strong basis of confidence and enthusiasm as they continue into secondary education.

Each child is nurtured both educationally and personally.  Our curriculum lays the foundation for standards of excellence with literacy and numeracy skills with a focus on oral and written communication and interpretation, reading fluency, spelling and presentation. The techniques and conceptual understanding of mathematical principals and processes are strongly emphasised.  Cross-curriculuar activities are the norm, blending subjects such as art, music and drama into lessons.ww2 f

The small classes ensure each child gets the attention to be the best they can be.  Pupils benefit by experiencing the whole of the educational process without the worry of having to change school at 11 years of age.

Additionally, pupils have access to the Senior School teachers and resources.  Subject area specialists teach all of the primary pupils in ICT and Sport, and with the ensuing Key Stage changes being introduced, we decided to teach Year 5/6 by subject specialists wherever possible,eg. Science, Maths, Geography.  The students really enjoy this approach, finding the classes very rewarding.

The classrooms are a bright and colourful environment to support learning and play. The atmosphere is safe and secure with a family feel.  There is a wonderful garden behind the classrooms where the pupils participate in growing vegetables and herbs, with an outdoor seating area for lessons in the sun is available as appropriate. Neville 320
