Lammas School Provides an Alternative Approach to Traditional Academic Six Form for Students Wanting the Best in A Level Tuition
On 1 st of April, Lammas School received official approval from the Department for Education(DfE) to launch a Six Form College. “This is good news for the school, students and parents,” says Headteacher, Mr Rod Singleton, “as we will be providing more choice for A Level students in the area. It has been my desire for some time to be able to provide a unique opportunity to study for A Levels in an environment that will provide not only individual academic support, but also the vocational and life skills to prepare for university or work life.”
The Sixth Form curriculum at Lammas School will be designed to provide a rounded educational package rather than just the delivery of superb A-level results. Teaching groups will be very small, thus giving a greater opportunity to excel. Mentoring will be available with professional people outside of the academic realm and appropriate work study situations will be set up. Already, such placements are being set up --- one for a student gifted in illustration who will be working with an animation company.
There will also be opportunities for students to visit Universities and participate in residential field trips and holidays. The enrichment Programme will widen the curriculum to cover life skills. Most importantly, the teaching will be student-centred, developed with the specific needs of each and every student.
The school has seen an amazing change this year since a parent group was instrumental in creating a NEW Lammas School in August 2010 with new ownership and direction to take Lammas School to new heights. With new equipment, technology, Holiday Clubs, and now the Sixth Form, Jane Reynolds, the owner, is thrilled with all that has been accomplished in such a short time. “My mission is to develop a supportive learning environment, supported by great teachers and creative tools that offer a more learner-centric, personalised curriculum. The new Sixth Form will do just that!”
